Assignment #3- Art Criticism

The Delineate artwork was dramatically fun. I like how extreme some of the pieces were; for example Blindspot's subject was a large doll head on top of a smaller statue's body.  Just looking briefly at the gallery each piece of work was full of color, lines, and space, this is what brings all the pieces together. The  artworks used a contrast of bright colors and black lines to create negative and positive space.

Julie Puttgen
Call of the Birds
Describe: Call of the Birds is a multi- piece of work that focuses on birds. The artist also uses words: now and look, in the piece. The artist used spray paint and charcoal on paper to create this piece of work.

Analyze: There is repetition and emphasis of birds in the piece. The different cubes created out of paper are variety of shapes and sizes. All the pieces are brought together with different hues of pink, blue, and tan. Some of the birds are flying, thus creating movement through space. The artist seems to have randomly place the pieces together on the wall.

Interpret: The meaning behind Call of the Birds as I interpret the piece is being free at all times. All the birds are in nature and not caged, most of them are flying. The artist made it look like was different times of the day by using light blues and white for the day and dark blues and white stars for the night. The light hues of the variety of colors. The mood of the work is light and free paralleling the meaning.

Judgement: I really like this artwork because of the colors, subject, and meaning. It does though seem like decorations that I would hang up in my apartment. I have seen pieces that are cubed and different shapes with similar colors hanging up in some of my friend's homes. The difference between those and this one is that Call of the Birds  has meaning and I really like the meaning of being free and light.
